It isn’t just anyone that gets invited to join an award-winning real estate team. But that’s what happened back in 2001, when RE/MAX’s Tanya Tyburski of the Bruce & Tanya team asked then-rookie Jessica McCain to become on of her select agents. Today McCain is among Northern Virginia’s top real estate producers, receiving praise from clients and agents alike.
Having had her Appraiser’s license for 2 years, McCain recounts the day she received the call from Tanya. “She loved the idea that I already understood home values and had heard through others that I had sales and event-planning experience as well. It wasn’t long before I realized the decision to accept her offer was the best one I ever made.”
The gravity and significance of what McCain does for a living is not lost on her. “Having the opportunity to work with families that are buying or selling a home is a privilege, so making them feel informed and secure through the process is something I take very serious.” That is why, McCain adds, she sometimes offers the kind of straight-talk people don’t always expect.
“A home is where life’s important moments take place, so helping people with their real estate needs touches their lives in meaningful ways, “ she says. “When negotiations get going, it can be easy for clients to get caught up in the process and it’s my job to slow things down and bring the big picture back in to focus,” she says. “But I also believe it’s just as important to tell them when I think they are about to pass on a great opportunity. I want to make sure they are going in to it with their eyes wide open.”
Her appraisal skills and pricing expertise are very useful to her clients and are unequalled in the area. But she considers her communication skills to be as equally important, if not more. “Buying or selling a home can be a daunting process. I listen and learn what their greatest concerns are”.
“I realize my clients are not just selling a house. They may also be leaving behind friends and neighbors. Maybe their kids are changing schools, and they could be changing jobs too. Put on top of that packing and moving and that’s a lot to handle”. McCain believes that making sure her clients are kept up to date with all that is happening and understand what to expect keeps the stress levels down to a minimum. And when it’s time, they are able to make good, clear decisions."
McCain’s “all-cards-on-the-table” approach has her clients coming back to
her repeatedly and referring their friends and family as well.
